| Dr. Joel Locke was born in Columbia, Tennessee, as was
his wife, Frieda, where they attended Central High School. Dr. Locke graduated summa cum-laude from the University of Tennessee and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. He attended medical school at The University of Tennessee in Memphis. Where he also completed his surgery and urological residencies before then extending his training with a pediatric urology fellowship. Joel and Frieda have two children, Elizabeth and Joel. Elizabeth graduated from Battle Ground Academy and Vanderbilt University and is married to Joseph Etherton, also of Battle Ground Academy and Vanderbilt University. Elizabeth is a Human Resource Director for a health care company and Joseph is a partner of Sage Solutions an IT consultancy firm. Joel Jr. also graduated from Battle Ground Academy and Ole Miss. He now lives in Nashville and works as a mortgage broker for Farmington Financial Group. Dr. Locke joined Dr. Evins at Franklin Urological Associates in 1986. He has been actively involved in continuing education such as studying lithotripsy in Germany and becoming one of the first urologists in Middle Tennessee to treat kidney stone patients with the now common treatment of extracorporeal shock Wave lithotripsy. He has advanced the technical approaches to pelvic reconstruction surgery in Women culminating in the current use of robotics. Beginning training in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery in 2002 he became one of the earliest advocates and users of this technique with surgery ranging from radical prostatectomies and female pelvic reconstruction surgery to advanced techniques involving renal pelvis reconstruction and renal sparing operations for kidney cancer. Dr. Locke remains one of the most active robotic-assisted surgeons in this area while traveling around the country to proctor other surgeons in this technique. |
